Raised in Moscow, practicing mostly with his father and coach
Evgeny, his mother, Irena is a housewife, his big brother Alexey
(25yo) who's also his best friend works and live in Moscow. He
spends more time in Germany (Munich) than in Moscow now which is
more central and easier to travel to and from. He started learning
English at age seven with a private tutor, and has also picked up
German since moving to Munich.
He officially turned pro in 2005 although he started playing
futures two years ago skipping the junior circuit at age 15.
Off court he enjoys ice hockey and follows NHL. His idol growing up
was Pete Sampras, now he admires countryman Marat Safin a lot and
still thinks Safin can get back to No.1 when fully fit.
He considers favorite shot forehand and favorite surface is hard
court, despite winning three futures on clay last year. His aim
this season is to improve his ranking as much as possible and break
into Top 100, eventually aiming to be in Top 10.
Highlights of his results since he started to play on the pro tour.
Season 2003 :
Evgeny plays 3 Challengers in Germany and a Future in Mulhouse (France), he doesn't go further than secound rounds but the fact he decided to play pro so young already shows his determination to reach the highest level.

and end the year by a first victory :
Season 2005 :
Constantly progressing he keeps doing well and goes for a big season, with 24 tournaments played and really good performances.
He won 3 Futures and 1 Challenger :

Really good results for a 17 years old player, which allow us to foresee the best for years to come.
