From the 6th to the 9th of december Evgeny will play an exhibition in Austria, "Die grösste Tennisparty del Welt".

Will also participate to this event, the swedish Joachim Johansson, Novak Djokovic and Benjamin Becker.

Evgeny is in the "tele.ring" group, in which are also J.Johansson et N.Djokovic.

It's a Round Robin type trophee (with super tie-break as third set), only one player would be qualified and play the finale against the winner of the second group, named "St.Anton" group, composed by J.MELZER, S.KOUBEK, et B.BECKER.

Mea culpa : it seems the final has actually opposed J.MELZER and J.JOHANSSON, Melzer would have won 6/3 6/4 ... but I admit I don't understand how Johansson, winning only one Round Robin match when Jhenya won two, could have been qualified for the final.

I finally found out that the wrong info came from the event official website which gave the scores without regarding the order of the names... up to you to guess who won !!

So it's actually PimPim Johansson who defeated Jhenya 6/7 (12/14) 6/1 10/6, and since he also won his match against Djokovic, he reached the final... where he lost to J.Melzer.

The first tournament Evgeny will play this year is Adelaide.

It will start on Sunday the 31st. It's the first tournament that applies the new rules of Round Robin, if you wanna know more about how it works you can click here.

Jhenya will play the "Main Draw Elimination Round", which will be his first round, against qualifier N.HEALEY (AUS). If he wins he'll advance to Round Robin, in group #3, where he would join [3]R.STEPANEK (CZE) and V.SPADEA (USA).

Evgeny won his first match of the season 2007 defeating N.HEALEY (AUS) 7/5 7/5.

Jhenya lost his first Roud Robin match to [3]R.STEPANEK (CZE) 4/6 6/2 6/2.

He still has a chance to advance to the next round, he'll play V.SPADEA (USA) on Thursday.

Unfortunatly Evgeny lost to V.SPADEA (USA) 6/1 7/6(6).

He's been quickly led in the first set and wasn't able to find the keys to come back. In the second set he improved impressively his game level and forced Spadea to play a tie break which has been tight but ended at 8/6.

After losing the first set it was sure he couldn't make it to the quarter finals but he decided to fight anyway... that's what proves he's one of those who are called "warriors". Respect !

Surprisingly qualifiers played their two rounds the same day, Evgeny went through it defeating [WC]J.SIRIANNI (AUS) 7/5 6/2 and [6]F.DANCEVIC (CAN) 7/6(2) 6/3.

Our lucky guy is back again

 

This time it's really over for Evgeny, he's been defeated by J.BLAKE (USA) 6/1 6/4.

 

 

 

What we'll keep in mind is that for the second time in a row it took him too long to get into the match. Once again he had troubles with his first serve, it got better during the second set but he still was far away frome his usual tennis. Too much pressure ? Too much involved ? That's possible, even though he's not the kind who lets himself being impressed by anything. As a proof, close to the loss he found enough resources to force Blake to fight hard to keep his break.

But Jhenya couldn't break back and finally lost to the american.

 

This tournament has shown some good and bad, but we can be sure he'll learn from it and be ready for next week big event.

 

Starting on the 15th, Evgeny will play his third Grand Slam Tournament.

After Roland Garros and the US Open in 2006, he will play the Australian Open in Melbourne. But this time he won't have to go through the qualifications, thanks to the withdrawals of T.HENMAN and N.KIEFER he is directly in the main draw.

As we could fear Evgeny didn't catch the victory, he lost to [10]F.GONZALES (CHI) but not without a great fight (4)6/7 7/6(8) 6/3 6/2.

Although he's out of the single draw, Evgeny will keep playing in Melbourne, associated to countrymate M.YOUZHNY, their opponents in the first round will be the australian pair C.BALL/A.FEENEY.
